New York Sure Is Noisy

How noisy? Well, 311 received over 260,000 noise complaints last year. According to what city officials told the AP, the city’s least quiet places include DUMBO (because of the cars and trains on the Manhattan Bridge), Astoria’s P.S. 85 (there’s a very screechy elevated subway track nearby), Manhattan’s Rivergate apartment building (which absorbs the noise of the East 34th Street Heliport, the FDR, and ambulances heading to NYU’s Langone Medical Center), Queens’ Springfield Gardens and Jackson Heights (the neighborhoods adjacent to JFK and LaGuardia, respectively), and Times Square (for obvious reasons). That should put the din emanating from the bar across the street from your place in perspective — for a couple hours, at least.
