Mayor De Blasio and Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña decided to keep New York City schools open on Wednesday, following Polar Vortex II: Cruise Control, but no one listened. “Well I’m the boss, mayor, chancellor in my household! I’m keeping my son home!” declared one mother. She was not alone: Attendance was just 47 percent, down from around 90 percent on most days in January.

Everyone knows kids are in charge anyway:

The weather today is more or less the same as yesterday, with a high around twenty, snow on the ground, and enough wind chill to make it feel below zero. We don’t want to leave the house either.
