“Tenants of illegally converted commercial buildings have less than a month left of the original six-month window to get protected by the law — and many of them don’t even realize it,” Bedford + Bowery reports of the looming March 11 cutoff, in service of the creative types paying very little for massive, unofficial spaces. “It makes no sense for them not to register,” says pro-loft activist Arthur Atlas. “They’re thinking, ‘Maybe I’ll just slide through this and I won’t have to register … ’ No, either the city’s going to nail them or the landlord’s going to nail them.”
