A sailor was murdered last night at the Naval Station Norfolk, in Virginia, before security killed the suspected gunman aboard the USS Mahan, a guided-missile destroyer recently back from the Syrian coast. According to the Navy, the shooter was a civilian but “had access” to the base, which is heavily guarded. After a brief lockdown following the 11:20 p.m. shooting, operations had returned to normal, the AP reports. Recently, in the wake of the Washington Navy Yard mass-shooting, Norfolk practiced anti-terrorism exercises and an active-shooter drill.
