April Is Just Going to Do All Those Showers Over the Next Couple Days

People walk in the rain through Union Square in Manhattan on November 26, 2013 in New York City. New York City is preparing for severe weather as a storm that wreaked havoc in the Southwest over the weekend is turning toward the Northeast. Heavy rains and high winds are predicted for Wednesday, Thanksgiving eve, one of the nations busiest travel days.

It’s a little chilly out there, huh? Soon it will be wet, too. According to the people at the National Weather Service, almost a month’s worth of rain — 3.75 inches — is going to fall on New York over the next two days. (To put that in perspective: The city has only gotten about 2.8 inches over the rest of April, plus a tiny bit of snowfall.) Showers are expected to begin later today, but the real hair- and shoe-ruining will happen in between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning, when a flood warning will be in effect. The deluge should keep the sky gray and the temperatures in the low 50s until it’s over. This is just nature’s way of making sure everyone feels that they’ve earned their May.
