New Jersey Star-Ledger Is Laying Off 25 Percent of Its Newsroom

The state’s biggest paper (and one of the largest in the country) announced that it will cut 167 jobs, including 40 editorial positions, which will reduce the size of its newsroom by about a quarter. Advance Publications, which, in addition to the Star-Ledger, owns the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the Portland Oregonian, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer said that this “grim day of reckoning” is part of a larger plan to “centralize” the paper, its sister publications, and its website,
