The Turkish government announced that it is ending its ban on Twitter. The social media platform was blocked two weeks ago, when people began using it to disseminate recordings that implicated Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s administration in a corruption scandal, though many Turks managed to continue to use the site via VPN and text messages. The announcement came one day after Turkey’s highest court ruled that keeping its citizens off Twitter “violated freedoms” and ordered that access be restored. Meanwhile, YouTube remains blocked in the country.
