Starting in early February, Jon Bolanos’s Upper West Side block came under the scourge of rampant package thefts, with 15 disappearing in a three-month period, depriving residents of their makeup and guitar strings. Then Bolanos decided to take action. He parked himself on his stoop and watched. And waited. Then, as he told CBS, he saw a suspicious-looking guy with a noticeably flat, empty backpack enter a building, only to emerge with his bag stuffed. Bolanos called the cops, who were around the block and able to apprehend the thief, though Bolanos said that he and his neighbors also helped police cuff the struggling suspect.
