When the president had lunch with his former secretary of State last summer, it was listed on his public schedule and the White House released a photo for us to scrutinize. Today the pair annoyed journalists (who were already angry that they only received an administration-approved photo of the last lunch) by secretly sharing a meal. After People tweeted a photo of Clinton chatting with a reporter “before her @WhiteHouse lunch,” the administration admitted that “The President enjoyed an informal, private lunch with Secretary Clinton at the White House this afternoon.” While it’s another sign of the White House’s lack of transparency, their secrecy is somewhat understandable; Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus responded to the news by suggesting that Clinton should weigh in on the VA scandal.
