We’ve already learned more than we wanted to know about Donald Sterling and V. Stiviano, and now there’s another player in their never-ending saga. On Monday, Maiko Maya King filed a lawsuit against the 80-year-old Los Angeles Clippers owner, claiming that they were in a romantic relationship from 2005 to 2011. In news that will shock no one, she says he later subjected her to “a steady stream of racially and sexually offensive comments,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. King, who was married when the relationship started, claims Sterling said of her former husband and the father of her two children, “How could you be married to a black man?” and “Why would you bring black people into the world?”
The lawsuit claims Sterling also declared, “Black people do not take care of their children. All they do is sit at home and smoke dope,” and bashed a new racial group, saying “Mexicans just do drive-by shootings.”
King claims that two years after their breakup, she became Sterling’s personal assistant and caretaker. He promised to provide her with $10,000 a month and a $100,000 bonus at the end of the year for a house and a car, but King says he “dangled money only if she would have sex with him.” She says she was fired on May 7, 2014 after complaining about his constant racial remarks and sexual harassment.
Sterling’s attorney Bobby Samini told the L.A. Times that the accusations are “completely baseless,” and “Anyone objectively reviewing Ms. King’s claims will have no doubt that they are without merit.” King is represented by Gloria Allred, whose appearance in this debacle is long overdue.
