Watch Out for Those Flash Floods, NYC

As your cell phone may or may not have just informed you, the National Weather Service has decided that the torrential downpour outside is worthy of a flash flood warning, in effect for all of New York City and parts of New Jersey through at least 5:15 p.m. Meanwhile, there’s a severe thunderstorm watch in place until nine tonight. The rain is expected to hang around until tomorrow morning, or possibly into the afternoon. Regardless of exactly how long it lasts, this storm should clear up the soul-crushing humidity everyone woke up to today, and that fact alone is worth however many shoes are going to be ruined in between now and whenever the precipitation stops.

Here’s what it looks like so far:
