For the past three days, a tropical storm stationed off the Mexican coast has given surfers some of the best waves of the season. The AP reports surfers in Newport Beach rode waves that hit up to 20 feet, which one surfer said “is as big as Southern California ever gets.”
Check out the photos and pretend you’re at the beach and not in a freezing cubicle.

Meanwhile, a different storm named Hurricane Cristobal is creating some pretty killer waves on the East Coast. Those waves, however, are maxing out at eight feet, reminding us that, unfortunately, New York is still not California (hoping to have that technology soon).
