A new rule proposed by the Department of Health and Human Services would broaden access to affordable birth control, allowing private companies who object to covering birth control for religious reasons to pass the cost on to the employee’s insurance company. IUDs for everyone!
The workaround is in response to the Supreme Court’s June Hobby Lobby decision, and grants the same accommodation already made for nonprofits to for-profit companies. Basically, this means that if you’re a woman working at a place like Hobby Lobby and you need birth control, you won’t have to pay for it yourself. Instead, your insurance company will eat the cost if your boss objects for religious reasons.
Sooooooo, how do you guys wanna celebrate …? I was thinking we could have a dance party to “Shake It Off.” Fun idea, right?
