The New York Daily News has a depressing, frightening report from Bushwick: According to the paper, three young men attacked a 22-year-old man wearing women’s clothing and his friend at 7 a.m. on Saturday. The assailants — 22-year-old Cody Sigue, 21-year-old Matthew Smith, and 17-year-old Tavon Johnson — screamed profanities and anti-gay slurs at the pair as they walked near Broadway and Putnam Avenue, chased them, and shot one of them in the backside. (The other victim seems to have gotten away physically unharmed.) The News reports that the police quickly arrested the attackers, charging Johnson and Sigue with menacing and third-degree hate crimes and Smith with first-degree assault. At least they’re not still out there.
