The Bluetooth “beacons” installed by outdoor advertising company Titan on payphones around Manhattan — and exposed by BuzzFeed as potential location trackers this morning — “will be removed over the coming days,” the mayor’s office said Monday afternoon, despite supposedly being “incapable of receiving or collecting any personally identifiable information” from the unwitting smartphone users walking by. Constant data-mining was just a bad dream!
