When former defense secretary Chuck Hagel discovered he was effectively being pushed out of his position, he decided to resign a week earlier than the White House wanted him to, according to CNN. The White House asked Hagel to delay the announcement until they had time to appoint a nominee to replace him, but Hagel decided he wanted to “at least control his departure.” Perhaps Hagel wanted to get out before the White House announced his replacement would be a guy with the name of a teen heartthrob.
