As the projected Snowmageddon was downgraded to a moderate snowstorm overnight, New York officials lifted precautionary travel bans that had been placed on private vehicles and public transportation. The announcement was made by Gov. Andrew Cuomo at a 7:30 a.m. press conference, where he said that most roads have reopened, and that MTA and PATH train services would start running on a Sunday schedule at 9 a.m. “I would much rather be in a situation where we say we got lucky than one where we didn’t get lucky and somebody died,” he said, adding that the city “dodged a bullet.” Other parts of New York were not so lucky, however. Long Island Railroad trains are expected to see continued service suspensions and delays, as snow and heavy winds continue to pummel some parts of the region.
