NYPD Officers Salute de Blasio As He Enters Wenjian Liu’s Wake

A day after NYPD chief Bill Bratton asked members of his department to behave respectfully at the funeral of murdered officer Wenjian Liu, cops saluted Mayor de Blasio as he entered Liu’s Saturday wake. (The funeral will be held on Sunday.) Though it’s impossible to predict exactly what will happen at tomorrow’s ceremony, the actions of the police stationed outside the Brooklyn funeral home where Liu’s body is being held were in sharp contrast to the hundreds who turned their backs to de Blasio at the funeral of officer Rafael Ramos last week.

As with Ramos’s wake, thousands of cops from New York City and across the United States braved the awful weather to pay their respects to Liu. New York governor Andrew Cuomo, whose own father died on New Year’s Day, was also in attendance.
