Herald Square Hosted a Cockroach Party

Seeing an occasional single cockroach on the street or in the tub is normal and fine. This is New York, after all, and we don’t just have cockroaches, we have fancy imported Japanese cockroaches; and that’s fine, too, because this is our and their melting pot. But casual pest attitudes aside, it’s crossing some line of entomological decorum when cockroaches start showing up in writhing piles like the one Instagram user Martin James recently found at 34th Street/Herald Square:

In their defense, though, since the National Cockroach Project indicates New York roaches have neighborhoods just like we do, perhaps they were just having a Memorial Day sewer-drain barbecue.
