Senator Lindsey Graham, who was the keynote speaker at an AIPAC dinner on Monday, made the bold statement that “Everything that starts with ‘Al’ in the Middle East is bad news. Al Qaeda, al Nusra, al Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula.” As Haaretz noted, al is basically the the of Arabic, which means that Graham was in fact saying that everything that comes out of the Middle East is bad news. Graham’s spokesperson told the Washington Post that he’s been telling this joke for years. The senator has visited the Middle East many times and is considering a 2016 presidential bid.
