Both nationwide marriage equality and relief from overnight rains came just in time for today’s rainbow brigades, who marched, chanted, and danced their way down Fifth Avenue during New York’s annual Gay Pride Parade. An exuberant crowd of onlookers lined the streets and cheered as grand marshals (and bona fide knights) Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi led the march from East 36th Street toward America’s most important (and now official) landmark in the struggle for LGBT equality, the Stonewall Inn on Christopher Street. That movement, which started in 1969, reached its greatest moment on Friday when the Supreme Court made same-sex marriage an American right, and as should be expected, today’s revelers came out to celebrate in style — and we have the slideshow to prove it.
