Last night, the U.S. Women’s National Team exploded for four goals in the first 16 minutes of the World Cup final (including three from Carli Lloyd alone) en route to a 5–2 rout of Japan, who’d defeated them on penalty kicks in the final four years ago. It’s the Americans’ first Women’s World Cup win since 1999, and their third overall. The result seemed inevitable for much of the game, but that didn’t make the celebration afterwards any less spirited. Here, some of the best postgame images.
