People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA, has reason to believe that Thomas Jones, an animal activist who once wrote on Facebook, “Grab your pitch forks and torches. Time to take down SeaWorld” and who was very interested to learn more details about hush-hush planning for protests at the aquatic theme parks might happen to be someone who once worked in SeaWorld’s human resources department named Paul McComb. PETA did some sleuthing, and realized that Jones’ address didn’t exist, and that his license plate number traced back to McComb. His post-office box belongs to SeaWorld’s head of security.
Since the documentary Blackfish came out, SeaWorld has suffered financial losses and plenty of shaming, and has proven mostly unsuccessful in countering its opponents. If PETA’s accusations are true, infiltrating the enemy has also proven to be futile strategy. McComb hung up on Bloomberg, which first reported the story, when contacted for comment. PETA’s spokesperson made sure to point out that the organization does not use fake names when carrying out its mission, although they have used drones, hidden cameras, and ads with Justin Bieber.
