1 Billion People — Probably Including You — Used Facebook on Monday

Mark Zuckerberg posted some insane news on his Facebook page on Thursday afternoon; given what he had to share, he was probably confident that this was the easiest way to make sure his post was seen by the maximum amount of eyeballs possible.

This Monday, 1 billion people used Facebook. That’s billion with a B, and a day with 24 hours. Or as Zuckerberg put it, that’s “1 in 7 people on Earth.”

Facebook announced that it had reached 1 billion active monthly users in October 2012; as of June, the website had about 1.5 billion users. Facebook, which became the fastest company to reach a market value of $250 billion in July, does not keep data on how many times those billion users groaned in one 24-hour period when they noticed their grandmas went back and liked every post they had written in the past year.
