Obama to Rename Mount McKinley ‘Denali’

On the eve of President Obama’s trip to Alaska to highlight the danger of impending global climate change, the White House has announced that the president is renaming Mount McKinley, the tallest mountain in North America, to Denali, the traditional Alaska Native name for the mountain locals have already been using for a long time. (Denali means “the high one” in the Athabascan language.) The Associated Press reports that Alaskans have long sought the name change, only to be blocked by history-loving politicians in Ohio, the home of America’s 25th president, William McKinley, who was assassinated by an anarchist in 1901.

Despondent McKinley fans can take solace, however, in the fact that his name still adorns the high schools in three canceled TV shows: Glee, The Wonder Years, and Freaks and Geeks
