On Saturday night, thieves managed to break into an Army Reserve Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, without setting off any alarms — according to WCVB, the unwelcome visitors snuck in through the roof — and stole more than a dozen guns. The alarms may have been turned off because of construction going on at the site, according to the Daily Beast.
The missing firearms reportedly include six M4 assault rifles, ten pistols, and a few long guns. The FBI and state and local police are all trying to find the guns as quickly as possible, and have entered them into a national database that should make it easier to track the guns. An FBI spokesperson told the Boston Globe, “There is no indication that these missing weapons are connected to any kind of terrorism threat whatsoever.” In case residents don’t need a terrorism threat to be worried about random people with stolen rifles, Governor Charlie Baker added during a Sunday press conference, “The more opportunity people have to rely on citizenry to serve as the eyes and ears, the more it makes a difference … These sorts of things people are going to be chasing and investigating no matter what, and I think it’s important for us to recognize that law enforcement will be collaborating, communicating, cooperating across all levels of government.”
