The giant golden letters on the face of three Upper West Side apartment buildings named for Donald Trump will be removed this week, after more than 600 residents of the three buildings signed a petition to “Dump the Trump Name.”
The buildings at 140, 160, and 180 Riverside Boulevard will no longer be known as Trump Place. Instead, they’ll go by their street address. Chicago-based owner Equity Residential announced the change in an email to residents Tuesday. The email explained that the change would “assume a neutral building identity” and make the building more appealing to “current and future tenants.”
Trump may be popular in middle America, but he hasn’t won over many in this UWS complex. “Trump’s appalling treatment of women, his history of racism, his attacks on immigrants, his mockery of the disabled, his tax avoidance, his outright lying – all are antithetical to the values we and our families believe in,” says the petition, which was posted online by three residents of 160 Riverside.
The owner told Bloomberg that its obligation to keep Trump’s name has ended, so it’s now moving on. Just think: One day America will be able to say the same thing.
