The lowdown

Above Burke & Wills on the Upper West Side is Manhattan Cricket Club, a bar that serves as an homage to great cocktails and one of Australia’s favorite sports. While the entrance is hidden, it’s worth seeking out if only for the Salt and Pepper, a flavor-packed deconstructed take on a Bloody Mary made with celery-root tincture, sun-dried tomato, white-truffle salt, and smoked-black-pepper essence. The gold accents, leather-tufted seating, and dark wooden panels create an ambiance that is swanky and rich, while shelves lined with cricket memorabilia and Charles Dickens’s novels add an old-timey allure. If there was ever an argument for becoming a bar regular, Manhattan Cricket Club offers liquor lockers for members where they’ll source and store whatever libations you desire.
