Profile
In a famous scene from the 1989 film Steel Magnolias, Julia Roberts proclaims her wedding colors to be "blush and bashful." "Your colors are pink and pink," counters Sally Field. The same can be said of the color scheme at this chain of nail salons, whose 1800-square-foot flagship store opened in the NYU-area in 2003. With a pink checkered floor, pink tweed upholstery, and nail technicians in hot pink T-shirts, the aura is unabashedly, bubblegum-ly girly. Clients soak their feet in the pink pedicure lounge, sipping drinks and watching Britney, Beyoncé, or Christina writhe and shimmy on wall-mounted flat-screens; or relax at one of many curved mani stations. While the menu extends to waxing, facials, and massages, the specialty here is nails, specifically artificial ones. Hundreds of pizazzily pre-decorated glue- and press-ons for fingers and toes occupy the front wall; clients looking for professional application can opt for Virtual Nails, patented plastic alternatives to acrylics that are cheaper, quicker, and easier on nails. The salon will even keep your measurements on record to make subsequent applications faster.
ExtraGirls' Night Out Thursday and Fridays, with free cosmos, draw divas looking for pre-party pampering.
