Profile
After decades in the beauty industry, Eastern European–born Mzia Shiman struck out on her own in 2011, opening this intimate spa on the sixth floor of a nondescript midtown office building. Custom furniture from Ralph Lauren and crystal chandeliers decorate the entry and manicure-pedicure room of the space, and the two treatment rooms are decked out with large orchids, warm throws, and cozy robes. Not to mention some pictures of Shiman with her celebrity clients, such as Mariah Carey. Shiman is known for providing treatments tailored to your specific skin type, so your first visit will start with a brief skin analysis with questions you can answer while sipping on a glass of complimentary Champagne. The spa menu is divided into facials, hair removal, nail care, and massage. Standouts include the signature facial, which features a neck and shoulder massage, extractions, and a finishing mask. The spa uses exclusively Decléor products, and while she does a thorough job with her extractions, Shiman insists that no one ever leaves the office with a red complexion.
