A major piece of the Surrey’s $60 million makeover in 2009 was the addition of this intimate spa on the hotel’s second floor. Like the lobby, bar, and guest rooms, the spa is outfitted in a neutral color palette of grays, blacks, and white done in luxe textured fabrics and finishes, with Art Deco light fixtures, hand-painted armoires, and relaxing hummingbird sounds to round out the spa experience. Privacy and tranquility are the buzzwords here; there’s no communal relaxation lounge, instead, all guests stay in one of five private rooms for the duration of their visit. The service menu hews toward relaxing skin and body treatments with a ritualistic touch: the elaborate detoxification The Purist begins with an French sea salt and honey exfoliation and body masque and ends with a marine salt soak and a Super Food drink of plant extracts and fruit juice. An added bonus: you can order lunch from Café Boulud downstairs.
