Profile

This sumptuously decorated beauty haven is the flagship location of stylist Edward Tricomi and colorist Joel Warren’s much-celebrated collaboration. Since the New York City-born duo opened shop here on a shoestring in 1996, they have draped the place in Persian rugs, baroquely oversized gilt mirrors, and Gaudi-esque curved glass vanities. With feet stuck into bright copper basins, clients get milk and honey pedicures inside of what resembles a Moroccan tent; the neighboring waxing room is adorned with Egyptian hand-blown glass beads. But the real attraction here is the pair’s charm and skill. The charismatic Tricomi, who moonlights as a musician, brings a rocker’s penchant for performance to haircutting: His signature “tunneling” cut—which earned him the nickname “Edward Scissorhands”—is a whirlwind of shears on dry hair that creates a funky, layered look. Warren, meanwhile, boasts that with his precise yet quick color applications, of which Jessica Alba and Kate Beckinsale are fans, a whole head can be swathed in foils within half an hour. Despite the speed of the services themselves, the frenetic pace of the salon means that a wait is almost always inevitable—and best enjoyed with a tall iced latte and a stroll by the salon’s expertly-staffed Paula Dorf  makeup and skincare counter.

Bridal Hair

Tucked into the Plaza Hotel, the newest and most opulent outpost from Joel Warren and Edward Tricomi is huge at 7,000 square feet. Here, brides can get cut, colored, and styled in one fell swoop. An extensive trial-hair session (from $350) includes two different looks with photos; the actual wedding-day do starts at $400.
