Profile
This summer, the River Flicks program was apparently chosen at random from your perma-stoned sophomore roommate's DVD collection, which, as it turns out, isn't a bad thing. Ignoble sequels (Rocky Balboa, Superman Returns) bookend the series, but in between are timeless cable epics with scenes of transcendence dramatically illustrating this year's underdog theme: Neo whispering there is no spoon as the elevator-shaft explosion rockets him skyward toward the baddies (The Matrix); Maximus threatening the deceitful emperor on the floor of the coliseum, and I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next (Gladiator). Also, don't miss lighter fare like Beerfest and Nacho Libre. Not all those giggles from the common room were chemically enhanced.
