Review
For almost three hours, an elderly woman named He Fengming describes her harrowing experiences as a political prisoner in Mao’s China, in director Wang Bing’s decidedly uncinematic yet nevertheless hypnotic documentary. The running time and the film’s static nature will put off some viewers, but the compelling story at its heart has drama to spare.
