The lowdown

Old Soho survives at Keith McNally’s shabby-chic bistro, which first opened in 1989 and has served French-ish comfort food to neighborhood locals ever since. There may be no more lived-in dining room in New York than this sliver of a room off Grand Street: The patina on the menu-adorned mirrors is very real, the wood and leather accents have all seen better days, and the hammered-copper bar’s cracks show their age. And yet: This is exactly where you want to be for some steak-frites and a few glasses of not-great-but-still-perfectly-acceptable red wine.
