The lowdown

The real-life Salt Bae experience — the T-shirt, the round robot glasses, the blank, trancelike expression — turns out to be uncannily like the viral digital meme version, which is part of the genius of the industrious Turkish steak chef Nusret Gokce, of course. But don’t expect much in the way of decent cooking at this wildly popular, Middle Eastern–themed steak joint, which occupies the old China Grill space in midtown, and the prices (our bill was $745 for two, for the record, including a hefty service charge) are predictably insane.
