The lowdown

A Hell’s Kitchen institution with a Chelsea outpost, Sullivan Street Bakery has been home to the best baked bread in the city for more than two decades, gracing restaurant tables from Babbo to Bistrot Margot. Perfect loafs of bread with dark, crusty exteriors concealing a soft, spongy core are the main draw, but visitors will also find an impressive menu featuring Roman-style pizza, Italian cookies, soul-warming soups, and picture-perfect sandwiches.
