Profile
Atmos’ long, whitewashed showroom and dizzying wall of backlit cubbyholes give it a 2001: Space Odyssey feel, and the merchandise only adds to that impression: the constellation of high-top sneakers covers all the colors on the neon spectrum (plus a few metallic MC-Hammer hues) and the t-shirts are equally loud. Still other items, like Lego-studded belt clasps and necklaces with gold ‘45s and silver boom-box amulets, have a retro rather than a futuristic sensibility. Atmos’ affinity for Japanese culture is evinced by the anime-inspired t-shirts and Chizawa-Handpu canvas tote bags, as well as their co-branded line of Ubiq kicks, crafted by Tokyo designer Kosaka. Other brands, like New Balance, Levi’s, and North Face, have collaborated with Atmos to create exclusive footwear and apparel lines, and shoppers can custom-order special-edition Nike/Atmos Art-Force Dunks in their choice of colors. T-shirts, jeans, and jackets from Claw Money, Hell’s Bells, and Freshjive round out the collection, and if the neon glare gets too intense there’s a scattering of sunglasses and 59-Fifty caps back by the register.
