DDC Lab showcases limited-edition sneakers and more of its shimmery, silky, high-tech collection in its second boutique. The front area houses kicks by PF Flyers and New Balance (which also owns the brand), dangling from a jungle-gym-like structure and suspended from the ceiling in clear cubes. The shoes range from classic white canvas styles to orange patent-leather high-tops, giving the Nike Sportswear flagship down the street some competition in the footwear department. The sprawling back area holds packed racks of apparel in cool, touchable fabrics, from a $100 bamboo T-shirt to a $3,000 coat. A grassy patch of lawn is unfurled in front of the fitting rooms, along with a real (though long since withered) tree. The men’s selection offers reflective nylon jackets, cotton button-downs in a dozen shades, and feathery knits in silk and camel blends, while a smaller womenswear section includes leather pencil skirts, crinkly polyester/nylon shredded tanks, and metallic coats. Pairs of skinny denim are stacked on shelves above a library of aptly chosen booksóTechno Textiles and Eco Chic: The Fashion Paradox among them. The accessories provide a fitting accompaniment to the futuristic apparel, with offbeat accents like stingray-skin wallets and Nooka’s ultramodern vertical-display watches.
