In 2004, Henry Chan and Sunny Poon, who both immigrated from China, combined their twenty collective years of retail experience in antiques and furnishings to open a store in Dumbo. Just two years later, they debuted this 5,000-square-foot, by-appointment-only showroom, which also functions as a warehouse and work space. At both locations, visitors will find a well edited collection of Chinese antiques dating from the past 100 years (plus reproduction pieces): hand-carved wedding beds, Elmwood sideboards embellished with painted landscapes, Tibetan cabinets, intricately carved wooden screens, and standing Buddhas made of clay are some samples of the merchandise. The pair regularly travels back to China to scout out antiques in places like small villages that are knocking down homes to make way for newer buildings. Pieces are then spruced up (think hardware replaced, minor cracks repaired) before being sent back to the United States. Furniture can be delivered within the city and small items are shipped nationwide.
