Profile
Tucked into the back of the Standard Hotel's lobby, this gift shop screams Meatpacking District: what is a convenience store at best for most hotels is here a lavish playground of unique bric-a-brac that surprises and delights. The mod, colorful shelves are stocked with everything from nail polish and cashmere throws to flash drives disguised as superheroes, and there’s not a trashy shot glass or snow globe in sight. High-end art supplies, hand-woven Italian scarves, and designer sunglasses by Paul Smith and RetroSuperFuture aside, the store (thankfully) lacks the unattainably exclusive vibe of the hotel—many items are the result of collaborations with local artists and turn out to be surprisingly affordable, like handmade jewelry by Brooklyn designer Anna Sheffield, which starts at only $30. There’s also a range of practical items for travelers on the go like bathroom products, cigarettes, magazines, and T-shirts.
Eye CandyEvery season the shop has a new art installation by a local artist.
