Profile
This family-run neighborhood kitchen shop offers a chic yet comfortable shopping space for longtime locals and younger, condo-owning gourmands. Opened in November 2008 by the Canadian Patten clan—also the folks behind Williamsburg's UVA Wines and Dumbo's Blanc & Rouge—the grown-up kitchen store is an antidote for aesthetically-minded foodies who simply can't bear the indignity of schleping to Bed Bath & Beyond for their cooking and baking gear. Situated across from the Bedford Cheese Shop in a beautifully rehabbed former funeral parlor, the store is prime hunting ground for dinner party hosts and guests, stocking cast-iron crock pots from the French company Staub, cutting edge knives from Japanese-purveyor Mac, and a section for cocktail provisions like bitters to keep discerning liquor snobs happy. Quirky-cool housewarming gifts like teapots from Alessi's tabletop range, cake platters from local potter Emily McCoy, and creative widgets from Oxo round out the wares. And while the selection focuses on cookery, the Pattens haven't forgotten Brooklyn’s amateur mixologists—they also sell glassware and cocktail shakers.
RegistryAesthetic-minded foodies will thrill at the selection at this cozy shop, which stocks everything from SodaStream seltzer makers (from $80) to little mortars and pestles (from $12). Cute anchor napkin rings are $6 each, and there’s a full selection of wares for amateur mixologists, too.
