Profile
The Williams-Sonoma store at Columbus Circle hides an added bonus: Up a staircase set far in the back lives a 3,500-square-foot showroom for the brand's home-interiors offshoot. The floor is about half the size of the cooking store below, and is divided according to three design types: classic, contemporary, and casual. The styles all have a traditional slant, with simple, symmetrical, and typically upholstered silhouettes. Visitors can find high-quality sofas, hardwood bed frames, turn-of-the-century-style dining-room tables, contemporary desks, and rugs, pillows, and lamps in a variety of colors and styles. There’s also a design center with consultants who can plan rooms and do at-home consultations at no charge. Just as the downstairs store offers cooking lessons, the home shop often stages book signings with such luminaries as crystal craftsman William Yeoward and Martha Stewart.
