Café-Slash-Local, Brooklyn

The Saint Catherine
660 Washington Ave., at Bergen St., Prospect Heights; 347-663-9316
Joining the burgeoning Washington Avenue nightlife scene is this hybrid, a seemingly made-for-regulars pub frequented by grad-student types keen on the affordable drafts and bottles (not to mention the quiet—some spend all night pecking away at laptops). In a room lined with wooden banquettes and paned windows, guests choose from a small selection of craft beers (Tröegs DreamWeaver, Lake Placid’s Ubu ale; both $6) and, starting at 8 a.m., pastries and Intelligentsia coffee. Come nightfall, light dishes predominate, including a daily changing quiche, hummus plate, and the S.A.L.T., a sandwich made of speck, avocado, and greens.
