“We’re probably the only firm in New York State that limits its practice to eminent domain cases,” notes partner Michael Rikon. “That concentration has enabled us to become experts in this area, not just in New York but on a national level as well.”
Founded in 1923, the four-partner firm has a long tradition of litigating condemnation claims on behalf of major corporations, small businesses, and individual property owners. The firm has secured many seven- and eight-figure awards for its clients—including one of the largest condemnation awards in New York State’s history, for the Collegiate Church after the MTA acquired its property in 2006 through eminent domain.
The firm has also been involved in a number of high-profile New York condemnation proceedings, such as the Times Square and the Atlantic Yards, Brooklyn, development projects. Recently, the firm was retained by Willets Point United, Inc.—a coalition of property owners and tenants—to prevent the condemnation of its property.
The firm’s ability to achieve notable decisions for its clients has resulted in a significant portion of its caseload coming from referrals made by other firms.
