“One to a customer” is the rule at the D’Amelio Terras Gallery show of new paintings and watercolors by Delia Brown, which opened October 7 and is up through November 4. In the first solo show for the 30-year-old M.F.A. grad from UCLA, all 24 available works are already spoken for, at prices from $2,000 to $2,800 for works on paper and $4,000 to $8,000 for paintings. Just how many people have been trying to buy? Chris D’Amelio says there is “many times more interest than pieces in this show.” During one recent gallery visit, four collectors were unsuccessfully attempting to purchase more of Brown’s work at the same time. Those who did manage to write checks include New Line Cinema president Michael Lynne and Laura Tisch (daughter of Saul Steinberg and wife of Jonathan Tisch), who was the first to buy Brown’s work at last May’s Chicago Art Fair.
