As usual, the Public Art Fund can be thanked for the best outdoor sculpture – atypically, this time around it’s got two hits by the same artist. British sculptor Richard Long, known for the poetic arrangements of stones he dreams up while walking through some of the world’s more remote places, has created site-specific works for two of the world’s most visible plazas, one on Fifth Avenue at the entrance to Central Park, the other on Park Avenue in front of Mies van der Rohe’s Seagram Building. But run, don’t walk, to see them – White Quartz Ellipse, at Freedman, and Brownstone Circle, at Seagram, will only be here through June 2. Long is also showing underground (text works throughout New York City’s subway cars through May 15) and indoors (new works at Sperone Westwater Gallery, 142 Greene Street, through April 29).
