The timing, one had to admit, was inspired. The very day that New Yorkers awoke to read, with understandable disbelief, that henceforth their fellow citizens would be, lemme get this straight, polite and civilized, and would cease snickering or pointing or gossiping – that very day, they also learned that they’d soon be getting a new neighbor. Matt Drudge, the most unapologetically ill-mannered man in American journalism, let it be known that he’d soon be commuting from L.A. to tape a weekly talk show for the most unapologetically ill-mannered man in international journalism, Rupert Murdoch. Any way you look at it, it’s enough to tip a city’s etiquette balance into dangerous disequilibrium. Now this calls for some real municipal leadership. Our sweet little city’s only hope is to quickly export some local nuisance. Too bad Joey Buttfuoco already went west.
