What are you doing today?
Ingrid: We started our day with lunch at Jojo and then walked over to Barneys. Derick got a full Brioni outfit. We also went to Teuscher Chocolates, which we love, and then we went up to Robert Marc for glasses. We’ll end the day at Café Gray. The girls have a piano recital tomorrow, so it’s a bit of a fun day. They’ve been musical since the age of 3. They play unbelievably difficult, impossible things.
Where did these outfits come from?
Ingrid: My dress is from Barneys, and the girls’ dresses are Laura Biagiotti from Zitomer.
Derick: My jacket is Zegna.
Do you always dress up for a family afternoon?
Ingrid: We are beautiful people inside and out. I start with the outside so when someone sees us, it’s a pleasant experience. And then when they get to know us, we are lovely people inside.
Derick: When I was in high school, I was voted best-dressed and most likely to succeed. They call me GQ at work. Even in scrubs, I look good. When you’re in anesthesia, you have five to ten minutes to convince people that you’re not the last person they’re ever going to see. If you present yourself well, it gives the patient confidence.
What are your plans for the summer?
M. Alexandra: I’m going to Johns Hopkins’ camp for advanced kids in Saratoga and doing physics. And in the fall I’ll be going to St. Paul’s School. There’s no dress code!
Elizabeth Anne: I’m also going to Johns Hopkins’ camp, but for math.
Ingrid: They had to place three grades higher than their own grade level to get in. Alexandra got 1300 on the SATs at the age of 12.
What’s wrong with you? Anything?
Ingrid: To those whom much is given, much is expected. And we’ve been given a lot. Right now we’re listening to Creating Affluence by Deepak Chopra, and following the A-to-Z principles of attitude. A is for all possibilities, B is for better than your best, and L is for love. Love everyone. We believe that, and we try to live that every day.
