Bose’s new Free Space 51 outdoor speakers ($449; 800-444-2673; bose.com) may not look like they’d deliver cutting-edge (and surprisingly loud) sound, but don’t be fooled—they make your Nelly or Norah Jones sound just as sweet on your deck as it does in your living room. Designed to blend in with your shrubbery and project sound up and out in all directions, the squat plastic devices perform best when they’re partially buried. But they’re also great—and more maneuverable—just sitting on your patio. Either way, you can leave them out all year, in snow, salt spray, and temperatures as low as 22 below zero. Sounds good to us.
